I’ve lived here for about 13 years. I’m originally from Croydon. I did a course at Plumpton College, and ended up in Lewes because a mate had a spare room. He took me on a pub crawl round the town on my first night, and I couldn’t believe how friendly all the people were in all the pubs. I also acquired a taste for drinking bitter that night.
What did you do in Lewes before you started up the restaurant?
I worked at the Rainbow in Cooksbridge for a bit, front of house and in the kitchen, and at the Pelham Arms. When I had my little boy I decided to start my own business, so I could find time for him. At first the opposite happened because I worked a full shift in Caffè Nero before spending the afternoon at my in-laws making truffles and ice-cream, which I sold at the weekend. And then onto the Limetree Kitchen.
Do you think the town’s growing collection of chain restaurants might attract more people in town who might end up eating at the independents instead?
